Anopheles stephensi, strain IV was identified to species according to morphologic criteria. It shows expression of green fluorescent protein (GFP), especially in midgut. When examined by Mark Q. Benedict on August 15, 2001, L4s of this stock showed GFP expression primarily in gastric cecae and the posterior stomach. No significant difference was observed between lines A, B, and C. This line can be distinguished from VD12 and VD14 by amplification of a 670-bp fragment in PCR using primers pAs IV (CAGGAGAGATCGAGGAATC) and pMLII (GCTCTTCTTGAGATTAAGG). The recommended annealing temperature is 55C.
MRA-314 contains a suitable number of eggs to establish a stock. Eggs are provided on damp filter paper and should be hatched immediately upon receipt.
Applications for MRA-314 include use as a reference stock for actin5c-eGFP expression.
