NR-20328 is a preparation of phthiocerol dimycocerosate (PDIM) derived from irradiated Mycobacterium
tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis), strain H37Rv. PDIM, a wax-like virulence lipid produced by all members of the M. tuberculosis complex, is located in the outer layer of the cell envelope near the surface of
the bacilli, where it plays a role in cell wall permeability and is directly involved in the initial step of macrophage infection. In a mouse model, the presence of PDIM was necessary for full virulence.
Each vial contains approximately 500 ?g of dried purified PDIM from Mycobacterium tuberculosis, strain H37Rv.
Note: PDIM is soluble in chloroform:methanol (2:1). DMSO can also be used depending on the
downstream application.
