The Anopheles coluzzii (An. coluzzii) colony originated in Ngousso, Cameroon.
An. coluzzii, strain AgORCO-QF2 is a new transgenic strain utilizing the binary expression system QF-QUAS (Q-system). The strain was produced using a piggyBac vector containing DsRed under control of the synthetic eye promoter 3xP3. QF2 is a genetically modified transcriptional activator that is derived from the qa gene cluster of the fungus Neurospora crassa that works well in Drosophila and Anopheles insects. This strain is a driver construct that expresses a 9 Kb enhancer + promoter region from Orco, the odorant receptor coreceptor expressed in An. coluzzii olfactory neurons. This transgenic line can be used in combination with QUAS-geneX effector constructs to express geneX in olfactory neurons.
Note: MRA-1300 is a Q-system driver line, and must be crossed with a Q-system effector line for tissue-specific gene expression. MRA-1300 can be crossed with MRA-1301.
MRA-1300 contains a suitable number of eggs to establish a stock. Eggs are provided on damp filter paper and should be hatched immediately upon receipt.
