NR-1368??Bacillus anthracis, A0485 (STI-89)(Bacteria)|Bacillus anthracis|A0485 (STI-89)|-60°C or colder|Lawrence Livermore National LaboratoryAcknowledgment for publications should read "The following reagent was obtained through BEI Resources, NIAID, NIH: Bacillus anthracis, Strain A0485 (STI-89), NR-1368."|Quantity limit per order for this item is 1. This item can be ordered twice a year. Orders over this limit will be sent to NIAID for approval before shipment.
Bacillus anthracis (B. anthracis), strain A0485 (also referred to as STI-89 and K2789) is a Russian/Georgian isolate obtained from the Vaccine/Serum Institute in Tbilisi, Georgia. The strain was provided to Dr. Paul Keim by Dr. Peter Turnbull from Porton Down, Salisbury, United Kingdom in 1996. This strain was also added to the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories (LLNL) Bacillus anthracis Collection and, in 2005, a portion of that collection was deposited to BEI Resources.
Strain A0485 (STI-89) is a Sterne-like vaccine strain lacking the pXO2 plasmid. It is distinct from the original Sterne vaccine strain and is part of a new paraphyletic branch within the trans-Eurasian cluster. The complete genome has been sequenced and is available [GenBank: CP007660 (BaA0485 genome) and CP007661 (BaA0485 pXO1)].
The presence of pX01 and absence of pX02 in NR-1368 has been confirmed by PCR amplification of plasmid-specific sequences from extracted DNA.
Each vial contains approximately 0.5 mL of bacterial culture in Tryptic Soy broth supplemented with 10% glycerol.
