Orders over this limit will be sent to NIAID for approval before shipment.
The Chinese strain of Schistosoma japonicum (S. japonicum) was originally isolated from An-huei Province, China in 1928. The laboratory stock of the original Chinese strain of S. japonicum was later mixed with a second isolate from An-huei Province in 1977 to produce the current Chinese strain. The Oncomelania hupensis (O. hupensis) subsp. hupensis, Chinese strain snail host was originally isolated in China in 1928.
NR-21967 consists of up to 100 O. hupensis subsp. hupensis, Chinese strain, infected with the Chinese strain of S. japonicum in a petri dish.
Note: Infected snails are exposed to miracidia only a few days before shipment. Laboratories should be aware and take caution of possible cercarial exposure following a possible 2-4 month prepatent period after exposure to miracidia (depending on the temperature). BEI Resources recommends consulting personnel in your institution's Occupational Safety and Health office for clearance to receive and maintain the infected snails.
Shipments of snails ordered through BEI Resources will be shipped by Biomedical Research Institute in Rockville, MD. To set up a standing recurring order of snails or mice, please use the Schistosome Standing Order Reagent Request Form in the shopping cart.
Note: The approximate time required to fill an order of exposed O. hupensis snails is 3 to 4 weeks.
