Phleobotomus papatasi (P. papatasi), PPNS, was obtained by D.J. Fryauff and G. Modi in North Sinai, Egypt, in July 1989.
This vector is transmission competent for Leishmania major and sand fly fever phleboviruses.
The whole genome sequence of a representative P. papatasi is available (GenBank:
AJVK00000000).
NR-44013 consists of adult P. papatasi (sand flies).
Adult sand flies CANNOT be shipped and must be picked up onsite at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR), Silver Spring, MD, USA. Please contact BEI Resources for details.
For additional information regarding care and maintenance of your sand flies please refer to the Reference section of the Product Information Sheet.
Any scientist* who is registered at the appropriate level with BEI Resources may request materials provided by the Department of Defense Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) Sand Fly Initiative through the
BEI Resources online catalog. BEI Resources forwards the request to NIAID for approval. Upon NIAID approval and issuance of permits, reagents will be shipped to the requestor directly from the WRAIR insectary. Sand Flies are not manufactured by or stored at BEI Resources. For technical questions about WRAIR materials, contact the WRAIR office directly.
*Scientists working for DoD agencies must order directly from the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and not through BEI Resources.
