Brucella abortus (B. abortus), strain 2308 ΔilvC was generated from strain 2308 by deletion of the ilvC gene and replacement with a marker gene encoding resistance to kanamycin. B. abortus, strain 2308 is a well-studied standard laboratory biovar 1 strain, isolated in the USA, that is known to be virulent for humans, cattle and other domestic animals.
The ilvC protein is a ketol-acid reductoisomerase involved in the biosynthesis of leucine, isoleucine and valine [locus tag: BAB_RS22610 (previously, locus tag: BAB1_1399)]. The ilvC deletion in B. abortus, strain 2308, resulted in the attenuation of the strain for infection of murine macrophages (RAW264.7) which was determined by the contributor through an intracellular replication assay. A reduction in virulence has also been noted for a B. melitensisΔilvC strain. The complete genome sequence of B. abortus, strain 2308 is available (GenBank: JMRZ00000000).
Each vial contains approximately 0.7 mL of bacterial culture in Tryptic Soy broth supplemented with 10% glycerol.
