Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii), strain ME49 (originally isolated from a sheep in California and available as BEI Resources NR-362) was passed singly through a cat to obtain a line that was capable of producing oocysts, and then further cloned by limiting dilution to produce the B7 clone.
The ME49 (B7 clone) strain is available from BEI Resources as NR-225, NR-10150 and NR-20729. NR-225 was deposited to ATCC
? in 2000 as a low passage line cloned from ME49 following a single passage in a cat. NR-10150 was deposited as the Type II parental strain used in a genetic cross with strain CTG ARA-SNF (Type III). NR-10150 is essentially the same as NR-20729 (similar passage history) but NR-20729 was deposited to BEI Resources as the isolate that was sequenced as part of the
Toxoplasma gondii Genome Project at the J. Craig Venter Institute's
Genomic Sequencing Center for Infectious Diseases (GSCID). The whole genome sequence of T. gondii, strain ME49 (B7 clone) is available (GenBank:
ABPA00000000).
Each vial of NR-20729 contains approximately 0.5 mL of culture in cryopreservative.
