Leishmania mexicana (L. mexicana), strain MNYC/BZ/62/M379 (+luc) is a transgenic clone derived from the parent MNYC/BZ/62/M379 strain. Strain MNYC/BZ/62/M379 was originally isolated in 1962 from a Nyctomys sumichrasti (vesper rat) in Cayo District, Belize (formerly British Honduras).
L. mexicana, strain MNYC/BZ/62/M379 (+luc) was produced through transfection with the luciferase gene from Renilla reniformis (sea pansy), which catalyzes a bioluminescent reaction with the substrate luciferin, allowing for growth of this strain to be quantified in vitro and in vivo, thus simplifying the methodology for scoring inhibitor assays. Strain MNYZ/BZ/62/M379 (+luc) was deposited to BEI Resources as a luciferase-expressing strain of the promastigote stage of the parasite’s life cycle.
Each vial of NR-51210 contains approximately 0.5 mL of culture in cryopreservative [5% dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO)].
